(More customer reviews)The BD Logic Blood Glucose Monitor is itself an O.K. device. The problem comes from the New BD Test Strips (The ones with GoldEtch technology, whatever that means). They are absolutely horrible. I've been a type 1 diabetic for over 16 years and have never used a more frustrating test strip. The capillary action is horrible and as a result they do not fill with blood properly and result in over 50% test error rate (E-3 error). No matter what you do you can't get the strip to fill with blood. For some reason, there is a small area in the reservoir that simply won't fill with blood. I've tried everything from using super large drops of blood to holding the test strip completely vertical. I called customer support and they gave me a bunch of suggestions that didn't help either. I've wasted over 400 test strips in less than three months. This can be very expensive and frustrating as a diabetic that tests my blood sugar 5 times per day. I don't like having to poke my finger four or five times to get one successful blood test without an error. BD is aware of the problem with their test strips, but as of yet has no plans to re-engineer their test stips (As they explained in a letter they mailed me). Additionally, the battery life on the meter is very short. I have to change the battery once a month. I've only had to change the battery in my OneTouch Ultra 1 time in 2 years. Finally, the computer software for the OneTouch Ultra is much more user friendly than the software for the BD Logic. I think the BD Logic has great potential (especially when used in conjuction with the Medtronic Minimed insulin pump), but until they design a better test strip I would recommend that you buy the OneTouch Ultra instead.

(More customer reviews)I've been diabetic for over 10 years and used a variety of glucometers. This has been the best and easiest to use right out of the box. It requires a pindrop sample and gives an accurate result in only 5 seconds.
The display is quite large for those with eyesight difficulties. It comes with a carrying case to hold the meter, a lancet, and a vial of test strips. You don't even have to take the meter out of the case to use it...just unzip the case and pop in a test strip!
It's easy to track pre-and post-meal readings using the up/down arrow and "M" button to mark each result. It can even be set to remind you to re-test post-meal in 2.5 hours!
The meter can be connected to a PC for downloading data (my doctor does this for me to analyze my readings).
It only comes with a few test strips (this is how all glucometers are packaged), so be sure to get extras. If your insurance doens't cover the strips, LOOK AROUND AT AMAZON for boxes of strips. They can be found for almost 50% of the cost at your local Wal-Mart.
