(More customer reviews)I never heard of a Spike Mat and I purchased it from a local newspaper report. It is perfect for my multiple trigger points, muscle spasms in thoracic area of back. Most places are hard to reach and the Spike Mat is PERFECT! to relieve some of the built up pressure without a pharma patch. I am so against chemicals in the body. What the Spike Mat offers is a good pain, remember when you would bite on your gums when your teeth were coming in? It's like that,once you lay down on spikes, then you can adjust pressure on areas that need more spiking. Actually, I tore it out of box when it arrived and used a tshirt then bare skin to relieve my back muscle problems. I love it and use it daily.

Scientifically speaking, a perfect vacuum is about 760 mm Hg vac, and my unit was able to pull about 585 mm Hg vac. That is enough suction to cause plenty of pain, if that were one's goal. My order got here in 2 business days.
The cups are capable of working with more powerful suction devices with a homemade adapter, again, if that were one's goal.

I felt a "reflexology effect" with an overall body "feel good" sensation. Muscles of my legs and butt shaped up. My circulation improved with better overall body warmth. One caveat: the cobbles are challenging and may produce too much pressure for some. You can wear heavy socks or place a towel over the mat to lessen the challenge. The mat is not skid proof. Be sure to place the mat on a carpeted surface, rug or yoga mat. By the way, this mat has been tested by ORI using an NIH grant.
