(More customer reviews)I was diagnosed with Primary Addison's Disease May 2010. I have had adrenal insufficiency since September 2007. I take Liothyron (T3) 18.75 mg timed release every 12 hours. I started Prednisone, 9 mg daily for chronic fatigue, diagnosed by a Nurse Practitioner, December 2009. I went to an endocrinologist, April 2010, to test for Addison's Disease, and they reduced the prednisone to 7.5 mg daily. 9 am, I took 5 mg prednisone, 4 pm I took 2.5 mg prednisone, the effects wore off in 2 hours, I was then reclined or bedridden until the next morning. The prednisone did not last long enough in my system, so I searched for something to fill in the period between 4 pm and 9 am. Making the bed would be an exhausting chore that I would need to lay down afterword and taking a shower I would need to lay down afterward exhausted.
Side effects of Prednisone were insomnia, heart racing, night sweats, hot flashes, weak leg muscles, did not reduce inflammation, eratic blood pressure and oral temperatures.
I started taking Pregnenolone, May 19, 2010, 30 mg in the morning while taking the prednisone. 2nd - 5th day I took 30 mg pregnenolone in am and pm with the 7.5 mg daily prednisone dosage. Stopped taking prednisone on the 6th day with no adrenal crash. Currently, I take 30 mg of pregnenolone, about 7 hours apart. I don't crave salt now, no night sweats, sleep better, reduced inflammation, stronger mentally and physically.
Pregnenolone is a nutritional supplement which is similar to the primary steroid your body uses to make all the hormones/steroids you need. It will boost the hormones and steroids you need boosted and reduce those that are too high. I use Pure Encapsulations Pregnenolone ordered from Amazon. I had a 24 hour "ComprehensivePLUS Hormone Profile" urine test on December 2008 which showed I was low in all steroids/hormones. Extensive blood tests in April 2010 to reveal hormone and steriod levels. Read warnings before starting.

(More customer reviews)Okay folks this stuff works great but as I found out you have to be careful when taking this with Rhodolia which also has MAO-A activity, otherwise effects could be multiplied. (Had no clue that Basil was almost as powerful as Rhodolia in this department.)
I have investigated MAO-A inhibitors somewhat for when I was using Anti-depressants before. I knew about the contraindication when it came to using it with SSRIs or Tryclics Anti-depressants but I had no clue it could also possibly interact (even in smaller doses) with other "Pro-drugs" that mimic and act on 5-HT receptors (seratonin).
In my opinion the effects of Holy Basil are a little less harsh than Rhodolia which signifigantly changes the body's chemistry. Both give you the feeling of "blunt force impact" which is what I use to describe the sensation of a drug that sedates your body's nerve receptors but not necessarily your brain. Do not use this outside as your adrenaline and nonepinephrine levels will drop signifigantly and while stress and blood pressure will be lowered and your cognitive reaction speed remains normal, you might become a bit woozy if too much is taken. DO NOT TAKE THIS IF YOU HAVE LOW BLOOD PRESSURE PROBLEMS DUE TO THE INCREASED RISK OF SEIZURE AND LOWERING OF THE "SEIZURE THRESHOLD".
For the right person this could work wonders. Judging from the effects I think it could possibly help women the most. For me one a day is more than enough despite the serving size which says to take 2. Eat with the drug so that is absorbed more slowly and to avoid toxicity. This is completely different from the seasoning basil which has been dried out and lost most of it's essential oil content, so do not think you are just popping a pill of ordinary Basil. I believe "Holy" basil is from India which has a more potent form of the plant as well.
Great product for people with High Blood Pressure. Probably works better than any Alpha or Beta blockers the Doctor would prescribe. Signifigantly lowers heart rate, so please do not attempt strenuous physical exercise while using this drug otherwise you could damage your muscles because it affects those synapses which are activated with adrenaline and other "fight or flight" hormones.

(More customer reviews)I have been diagnosed as being hypothyroid. Lots of times one also has weak adrenals with that condition, though the blood tests often will not show this. (I found the Stop The Thyroid Madness website to be a wonderful fountain of info on thyroid plus adrenal help, personally.) It takes time for the Isocort to work. Maybe a month or more. But there are no side effects that I've seen at all. It is a natural product, not a pharmaceutical. In just the couple of weeks that I've been using it I've slowly but surely been getting over extreme fatigue and weakness. However, I also began using more than the 8 tablets they conservatively recommend, as for one thing I am tall and for another I believe I am careful to monitor things like temp rises and dips and pulse, blood pressure, etc. (P.S. After having a doctor listen to me about my adrenal concerns and getting - not blood but - urine testing, I was put on Cortef
which with a prescription is cheaper and also more powerful than Isocort.
But if you can only get Isocort, it is still very good. By the way both Isocort and Cortef may only need to be taken for 6 months or so as the body will heal the adrenals if it is given enough support and not too strong doses of Cortef (20 mg. will not cause dependency). If you feel your heart racing about an hour after taking the meds, it may be not only a sign that you need to decrease your dosages some, but a sign that your adrenals are healing! Rhodiola, Macca tablets and Ashwagandha have also helped many with adrenal problems including me. Oh, and don't forget lots of Vit. C. Doing what you can to decrease your stress levels is of course going to help you heal faster.
