It comes with a lancet device included (Accu-Chek Softclix Lancet Device) and 10 lancets but no strips; therefore, in order to use it even once, you must buy the strips. I bought the Accu-Chek Active Blood Glucose Test Strips and they work. Given that 10 lancets last only ten times, you are better off buying lancets right away. Careful! You must buy the Accu-Chek Softclix Lancets (the Accu-Check SoftTouch Lancets will NOT work).
Once you have all your equipment, you do the following. Every time that you buy a new box of Strip, you must put the microchip in the monitoring kit.
The routine is very easy: load the lancet device; load the strip in the monitoring kit; use the lancet device to make a tiny prick in your finger, put the drop of blood on strip. Five seconds and you get the answer.

(More customer reviews)Hi, what a very handy little machine, helps you keep an eye on your sugar level over a long time. This makes going to the Doctor for this test un-necessary, the help it give's comes at a price. The Machine is well priced but the test strips are very expensive, compared to normal blood glucose strips. Yep I like it easy to use as long as you follow instructions, only need to use twice a year, unless you are ill where this will tell you how your sugar level has been over the last three months or so.
Had to purchase form USA Amazon as UK do not sell it, well no one in the Uk does except EBay where there is one seller.

Greater Diabetics doesn't even know what the contents should be, Easy Glucose denies any responsibility and told me to deal with GD. Stop by your local pharmacy and buy a kit where you can go back and talk with somebody in person. I've been had.

ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus Meter Kit Review

(More customer reviews)I've recently started using the Accu-Chek Compact meter. The previous reviewer states that you cannot "turn on" the meter without a test strip coming out. THIS IS NOT TRUE. I almost didn't get this meter because of that statement. Luckily, I checked it out.
If you want to check previous readings or use the meter "as a watch," just hit the Memory button. The meter turns on, showing the current time, date and previous blood sugar reading. No strip. If you want to test your blood sugar after checking time, etc., THEN hit the On button. All this information is in the instruction booklet and the Quick Reference guide. You can't help but learn this unless you never looked at even the Quick guide.
As for how I like it? I love it. It holds 17 strips and I take it everywhere. It's great to be in a restaurant and not have to fumble with a container or, worse, foil wrap. The strips eject (usually) with the press of a button. It also takes "normal" batteries (two AAAs). The viewing screen is large (1 1/2" x 1 1/2") and displays results in large numerals, which is good for anyone with eyesight issues. The test strip barrels are small--about 1" by 3/4" in diameter--and there's only one simple way to load them, so no worries there. The meter stores 100 previous results and has a feature that allows you to average or "trend" the previous 7 days' readings. It may also download results onto a computer with software and cable (not included).
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that I find it a little bulkier than my other meters. It's about 4 1/2"L x 2"W x 1"H. I would also like to see it store more than 100 readings. Also, sometimes the strips do not eject and I pull them out--not a true problem for most, but I wanted to note it. And I'm not crazy about the lancet device and lancets that Accu-Check sends with its meters. I find the flat lancets difficult to uncap, load and to work with in general. I'm liking BD's "fat" lancet device and cylinder-shaped lancets a lot. They've made the lancing much softer than previous generations.
Overall? Thumbs up for the Accu-Check Compact.

This meter is accurate and by far the most affordable test strips. The meter doesnt have all the bells and whistles as some, but I don't usually use many of the features many meters offer. I am sold on this meter and recommend it 100% as long as the strips remain so affordable.

(More customer reviews)I have used the "Sidekick" several times as a back up and traveling meter in place of my Ascensia CONTOUR Monitoring System. It worked fine the first two times, but on the third unit (you buy the whole unit each time) it showed readings that seemed way too low for what I had eaten and how I was feeling. Retesting several times showed the same results so I ate a bunch of carbs to raise my blood sugar levels and headed home. Once home, my "Contour" meter reported my sugar levels to be VERY high so tested again with the "Sidekick", which again reported low blood sugar levels. Likely I just had a bad meter or bad test strips (these things happen), but it isn't worth the risk to me. I bought another "Contour" to keep at work and for traveling.
Not recommended!

(More customer reviews)I began testing on a meter that took 40 seconds to display results, so I was glad to find a OneTouch Ultra that took only 5 seconds. I switched to the Ultra 2 about 9 months ago, and I love it.
The main reason I switched was for the backlight. Silly, I know, but it makes such a difference. Also, you can add comments to your readings or flag them as before or after meals. I like the ability to check my averages based on all results, before meal results, or after meal results. The up/down buttons are helpful, too. No more scrolling all the way through if you accidentally skip over your number when coding the meter.
The OneTouch Ultra 2 isn't hard to use or full of extras that are useless. It seems to be just the right combination of helpful features that help keep tighter control.
