It comes with a lancet device included (Accu-Chek Softclix Lancet Device) and 10 lancets but no strips; therefore, in order to use it even once, you must buy the strips. I bought the Accu-Chek Active Blood Glucose Test Strips and they work. Given that 10 lancets last only ten times, you are better off buying lancets right away. Careful! You must buy the Accu-Chek Softclix Lancets (the Accu-Check SoftTouch Lancets will NOT work).
Once you have all your equipment, you do the following. Every time that you buy a new box of Strip, you must put the microchip in the monitoring kit.
The routine is very easy: load the lancet device; load the strip in the monitoring kit; use the lancet device to make a tiny prick in your finger, put the drop of blood on strip. Five seconds and you get the answer.

Upon sending an e-mail as to how to proceed to get the order corrected, I'm asked to call a phone number and given their office hours. I call the number and can't get past the machine. I don't have time to screw around with this. I simply write it off as a lost cause and take my business elsewhere.

I said all that to say this. My cat takes 2 insulin injections daily. I need to check his sugar levels once a week. Only .6 blood is needed and my cat is a good judge of what doesn't hurt. I have the lancets on the smallest pinch and my cat just thinks I'm giving a good and BIG pet, which of course I do as 1 after I get the blood.
It's a great system.

So i am out 3 boxs of strips and now I have another broken monitor and I am NOT paying $100.00 agen to replace it .
PS . Why would you NOT make this with a brum ?? I is veary hard to try to take just one 1 test strips out of a bottle and put them right side when you are blind

ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus Meter Kit Review

(More customer reviews)I've recently started using the Accu-Chek Compact meter. The previous reviewer states that you cannot "turn on" the meter without a test strip coming out. THIS IS NOT TRUE. I almost didn't get this meter because of that statement. Luckily, I checked it out.
If you want to check previous readings or use the meter "as a watch," just hit the Memory button. The meter turns on, showing the current time, date and previous blood sugar reading. No strip. If you want to test your blood sugar after checking time, etc., THEN hit the On button. All this information is in the instruction booklet and the Quick Reference guide. You can't help but learn this unless you never looked at even the Quick guide.
As for how I like it? I love it. It holds 17 strips and I take it everywhere. It's great to be in a restaurant and not have to fumble with a container or, worse, foil wrap. The strips eject (usually) with the press of a button. It also takes "normal" batteries (two AAAs). The viewing screen is large (1 1/2" x 1 1/2") and displays results in large numerals, which is good for anyone with eyesight issues. The test strip barrels are small--about 1" by 3/4" in diameter--and there's only one simple way to load them, so no worries there. The meter stores 100 previous results and has a feature that allows you to average or "trend" the previous 7 days' readings. It may also download results onto a computer with software and cable (not included).
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that I find it a little bulkier than my other meters. It's about 4 1/2"L x 2"W x 1"H. I would also like to see it store more than 100 readings. Also, sometimes the strips do not eject and I pull them out--not a true problem for most, but I wanted to note it. And I'm not crazy about the lancet device and lancets that Accu-Check sends with its meters. I find the flat lancets difficult to uncap, load and to work with in general. I'm liking BD's "fat" lancet device and cylinder-shaped lancets a lot. They've made the lancing much softer than previous generations.
Overall? Thumbs up for the Accu-Check Compact.

I bought this also because the test strips were more affordable than some of the other units I saw at Wal greens. I bought this and Accu-Chek Roche Aviva 50 Count (Mail Order) from here amazon.com
The unit is easy to use, and the measurements are repeatable. There is a sort of "calibration" you need to perform every time you are opening up a "new pack" of strips. I thought that was a nuisance, but then I can understand why it is required (I think this is common for all meters)
Overall, I should say I am pleased with the purchase.

(More customer reviews)I was diagnosed with diabetes last year. I was given the Freestyle Lite monitor by my doctor. I liked it--it is smaller than the Accu-Chek but the lancet is comparatively more painful than the Multiclix lancet device that comes with the Accu-Chek. The main reason I switched is because the Accu-Chek was my insurance company's preferred meter and the copay for the strips was considerably less ($35 for 50 Freestyle Lite strips and $5 for 90 Accu-Chek strips). Both store readings and have alarms. Both require only a small amount of blood for testing, but I found that the Accu-Chek didn't seem to need as much as the Freestyle Lite. Also, the Freestyle lancet gave me little "wounds" from where I had tested, whereas the Accu-Chek did not, and--may I say it again?--the Multiclix was much more comfortable to obtain a sample--it was literally painless compared to Freestyle Lite.
Even if you don't change your meter you might want to just buy the Multiclix (sold separately also). You won't believe the difference!
There is "no coding" with the Freestyle Lite but there is with the Accu-Chek--that was no big deal at all doing that.
All in all, I prefer the Accu-Chek to the FreeStyle Lite. The FreeStyle is smaller, though, FYI.
