The Wellness Monitor. Review

The Wellness Monitor.

First, I'm unsure why other reviewers would give a product a low rating because they lost their Fitbit or whatever. Like any small electronic device or jewelry, you have to find out what works for you so as not to misplace it.
More important is the Fitbit itself. It's more than a glorified pedometer. It's convenient and I can have it with me 24/7. I can establish "activities" for the times I'm burning extra calories, but without much motion. Weight lifting is one example. Data from the Fitbit are wirelessly uploaded to my website account and, in my opinion, it's the website that makes the Fitbit worth the investment. Poke around the [...] website, which is free, and see for yourself what are the benefits to you.
What do I like about the Fitbit. It's a lot of fun to use and from Fitbit community it's clear many people become obsessed with using it; this writer included. I like that I've lost 33 pounds, learned where to adjust my diet to be more balanced and have a history of my waking and sleeping activities, plus more. As for cons, I don't have any. I do have concerns about loosing it and have taken steps (no pun) to keep it securely with me. Also, the rechargeable batter is not user replaceable and it won't last forever. Fitbit still hasn't published a battery replacement policy or cost even though they say they will.
I bought my Fitbit directly from the company and have had it with me for about 8 months now. My wife has had hers for about 6 months. Bottom line: I Love it and Never Am Without It. My wife too.

This device automatically tracks your daily movements and sleep cycles to help determine if you are getting enough exercise and sleep. Similar to NASA technology that monitors astronauts in space, the device's integrated accelerometer monitors the intensity and duration of movements, tracks steps taken and distance traveled, and calculates calories burned--even during activities that do not require walking. The sensor fits into the included wristband while you sleep and tracks tiny tremors in the wrist to determine how long it took you to fall asleep, how often you woke up, and how long you were actually asleep, not just lying in bed. When the device is within 15' of the charging station, it automatically uploads information to the manufacturer's website, where your readings are displayed on timelines and graphs. About the size of a USB flash drive, the wellness tracker clips to a belt or fits in a pocket. Includes Windows- and Mac-compatible software for uploading readings to the website. Operates for 10 days after a 1 1/2-hour charge.

This is a great little pedometer, especially for the price. I do not use all of the functions as I am just tracking steps, but I can't imagine that the other functions would be any less accurate than the step counter. If you are iffy about this, don't be, it's great!

Omron Healthcare HJ-105 Digital Pedometer Review

Omron Healthcare HJ-105 Digital Pedometer

After using the Oregon Scientific pedometer with pulse meter (disaster - clip broke in 90 days, unit rendered useless) - I decided to go for a more utilitarian unit. Other than the batteries' demise, this unit has been quite usefull. The clip is stronger than my previous model; and testing with a 1 mile tracks shows the unit is off about 2.5%, which is not bad.
While a little sparse on features, it gives you what you basically need; # of steps; distance; # of calories expended. If you are looking for basic, good value, this could be your winner.

DMC-03 Multi-Function Pedometer (color: RED) Review

DMC-03 Multi-Function Pedometer (color: RED)
Average Reviews:

This pedometer measures steps, miles, km, and calories. There is no way to calibrate for your step length so the last three measurements are averages. This is why I gave it only 4 stars. To be fair, I knew that it wouldn't have that option when I bought it, but it is a minor shortcoming.
I found the steps to be pretty accurate. I did a test of 200 steps and it was off by 6 steps. It could have been when I bent down to pick up the paper, but that's only 3%, which is 300 steps in a 10,000 step day.
I love that it has a cover and doesn't reset accidentally. The belt clip is very sturdy and won't come off. I've even carried it in the 5th pocket of my jeans and gotten great results. The way the cover comes off while it's on your belt let's you easily see your step count with out taking it off.

LifeSource CP-1THW Wireless Combo Kit Review

LifeSource CP-1THW Wireless Combo Kit
Average Reviews:

it is a decent system, but the software in my opinion is lame. it does just the basic functions. there is no way to use this system for multiple people. if someone else gets on the scale it averages their weight in for that day also. there is a way to go delete the data, but it's a pain. the software was written with adobe air instead of a real windows client programming language, indicating that their programmers have little programming experience. there is no way to import or export the data. the scale wakes up and beeps every time someone walks by it (vibration activates it). shoe sensor has to be within 3 feet of the usb fob to get a reading. scale must be "woken up" or it won't transmit, same with bp meter. other than these gripes (i almost sent it all back at first - when i saw the software) i have been using it for a few weeks and it does collect and chart the data (given limitations above).

I was looking for a step pedometer at a reasonable price & that's what I got. I also like that when you want to check your steps & open it up, the number of steps are in the part that you open, so you don't have to twist it around just to read it. I am thinking about getting a couple more for myself & friends that also want to track their steps.

LifeSource XL-20 Wireless Activity Monitor Review

LifeSource XL-20 Wireless Activity Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used this activity meter since last Decemeber and now give it as a routine gift. It works very well. It is able to retain information for at least a couple of weeks without downloading. It is able to take water, mud, heat, and a whole lot of knocking around. It is more accurate than any pedometer I have tried; and I've tried more than a half dozen. One problem is getting the program to load-up on the first try.
The product instructions instruct us to replace the whole unit when the battery goes dead. This includes the necessity of buying a brand new adaptor every time one buys a new activity meter. That's wasteful but I would feel better if we didn't have to buy a new adaptor every time as well. Overall, I strongly endorse the product.

In my experience, people buy pedometers to count steps and measure distance. This one does not calculate distance. I read the descritpion, and it does not SAY it does not "do" distance. Caveat Emptor.
It is not in use (probably in the trash.)

We bought a bunch of these pedometers for a fitness challenge at work. Half of the ones we bought were green, half were blue. For some reason the blue ones seemed more accurate -- many of the green ones under-counted the steps significantly. Maybe it's a coincidence, but, when we needed to get more, we bought all blue ones!

The back came off of this within a week. I am pretty careful with my pedometer and this came apart without any pressure. I glued it back and it came apart again. I really liked that it had a cover so the reset button wouldn't be automatically pushed since I wear a pedometer all day. I ordered three and all three did the same thing.

Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer with Advanced Omron Health Management Software Review

Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer with Advanced Omron Health Management Software
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I think this is an excellent pedometer -- it does the job well and accurately. It counts your steps whether it is clipped on, in your pocket or in a purse. The auto-reset to zero at midnight helps keep you honest. Like the software - a couple of clicks and your data is automatically uploaded. It shows your results on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis. Omron is the only company I have seen that provides you with software.
I think the manual that comes with the device could be slightly improved but here are some tips that may help you with setting it up and using it for the first time:
(1) With the back cover off, make note of the serial number. It is engraved into the case in tiny letters near the bottom. It is a six character mix of letters and numbers. You'll need this for registration later.
(2) Before starting to configure your pedometer, you will need to calculate the length of your stride. Pick a starting point and walk 10 regular steps. Measure the distance in inches and divide by 10. Make a note of the result to use later.

(3) In the software, I suggest setting modest "daily goals" to start. Adjust your goals up or down anytime through the software's Options menu as you get use to the pedometer.
(4) The "Set" button on the front is smaller than the others and is intended to be used occasionally to reset the time, your weight, etc. as needed - it does not reset or delete your step data. As a good practice, upload your pedometer data regularly as a backup. In the unlikely event that the "Set" button is accidently pressed , just press "Set" another 4 or 5 times and you'll come back to your normal "step" screen.
(5) Step count - this pedometer shows total steps (both aerobic and regular steps)in the "step" count screen. To see only the aerobic steps accomplished for the day, go to the next screen. It keeps a separate count for aerobic steps (60 steps or more per minute continuously for 10 minutes or longer).
(6) While you can view the last 7 days of step data on the device itself, it actually holds up to 42 days in memory. All data is viewable once uploaded to your pc.
Hope this helps... I highly recommend this device.
