(More customer reviews)There are lots of blood pressure cuffs for home monitoring that are out there. This one is the HEM-711DLX and is exactly in the middle of the Omron line up for over-the-arm blood pressure cuffs. Over the arm blood pressure cuffs are considered to be more accurate than wrist cuffs or finger cuffs. They are also less expensive than the wrist or finger cuffs in most cases.
The unit is easy to use and is straight forward to operate. It is easy to apply the cuff and all you do is press a button. The blood pressure correlates well with manual readings and my doctor's readings. Once you set the time, date, and year the memory feature is helpful so that you don't have to record all of your readings to paper or your computer at once. The cuff remembers the last 60 readings with a time and date stamp.
There may be other companies that produce quality cuffs, but Omron has always worked well for me. I have been impressed with the accuracy and the reliability of these cuffs. The company produces other cuffs, but I felt that this one hit the sweet spot for features and price.
The other Omron cuffs are as follows:
1. Omron HEM-432 Manual Blood Pressure Monitor
2. Omron HEM-712C Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with IntelliSense
3. Omron HEM-780 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with ComFit Cuff
4. Omron Ultra Premium Digital Blood Pressure Monitor
All of these cuffs are easy to use, accurate, and reasonable options. After trialing most of them, I felt that the HEM 711-DLX offered reasonable features at a reasonable price and made the most sense.
The lowest priced model (HEM-432) was just as accurate, but required manual inflation and had a more difficult to apply blood pressure cuff. Manually inflating the cuff was at best an annoyance and resulted in errors from under inflation. The low line model also had a cuff that was a little harder to apply with one hand, the HEM 711-DLX has one that has a contoured side that made it easy to place and velcro the cuff in place.
The second lowest priced model (HEM-712C) worked well, but for about 10 dollars more, I was able to get a model with the easier to apply cuff and increase the warranty from 2 to 5 years. I felt this was worth it, but the HEM 712C is still an accurate and worthy model.
I didn't see an advantage to the HEM-780. It does have the 'TruRead' feature, whereby the blood pressure cuff takes three consecutive readings over three minutes and averages them. It also has a larger memory and can record blood pressures for two users. I didn't think that these added much for me. If my wife wanted to have the unit record her pressures too, I might have gone for it.
As to the HEM-790IT, Ultra Premium model, I didn't feel that I needed to download my blood pressures to a computer. If you like this kind of feature (which sounds kind of neat), this cuff is for you. I transcribe the blood pressures to my computer manually, so this was not a big selling point for me.

(More customer reviews)I bought this HEM 790IT monitor because I had two stints put in my LAD (Left anterior diminutive) cardiac artery just before Memorial Day and I need to monitor my blood pressure. I had a follow up appointment in August 2010 with my cardiac doctor and so I took my HEM 790IT monitor and compared my blood pressure with the blood pressure monitor that they used in the hospital. I took my blood pressure just prior to their machine taking my blood pressure. My HEM 790IT had a systolic pressure that was just 3 pounds of pressure below their unit and the diastolic readings were the same and the pulse readings were the same also. This blood pressure monitor is very accurate, but my unit is not a commercial unit like the one at the hospital that is used prolifically. My monitor also has a CD that I installed on my Vista Business operating system and my notebook has the many graphs and charts for my weekly and monthly comparisons of blood pressure readings. My unit records my blood pressure readings for 8 or 9 weeks and I don't have to write anything down on a piece of paper, everything is digitally recorded inside my HEM 790IT unit. By using the software on my notebook, I printed a lot of daily, weekly, and monthly charts and graphs for my cardiac doctor to look at when I had my follow up appointment just 3 or 4 weeks after I had purchased my Omron blood pressure monitor. By looking at the graphs he made an observation that he wanted to know and he recorded this in my records at the hospital. This helped him make a prognosis for me! And a few weeks after this I was able to get a prescription for a statin pill that I am not allergic to and this has helped me control or lessen the problem that my doctor had noted on the graphs and charts that I showed him in August. I continue to monitor my blood pressure daily and this helps me monitor the prescriptions that I am taking. This is an excellent product and is very accurate! This unit monitors my blood pressure just fine, every time!

I got this blood pressure monitor for my husband's use--he is a physician with high blood pressure. He was not interested in using it to monitor his own blood pressure, but was very interested in using it in his clinic, as he had the manual type (called a sphygmomanometer) and his nurse was showing signs of carpal tunnel syndrome from manually pumping it up for each patient. So I agreed that he could use it there if he would write a review for me. Although this will not give feedback on the use of this monitor for individual use, I think that the review by a physician will be worthwhile and add something to the many reviews already published here. Here is his review:
"We just started using the Omron BP785, Series 10, blood pressure monitor in our medical clinic. We have tried other automatic blood pressure monitors before and were not satisfied as the readings were erratic at times. We have been impressed with the accuracy and ease of use of the Omron device.
The device is small, light, and has an easy-to-read face that measures 4.75 inches by 6 inches. The back of the device is elevated off the flat surface 3.5 inches, the front is elevated only .75 inches so the device is manufactured to rest on a flat surface and the face is tilted forward towards the user for ease of reading. The readings are in large size numbers also for easy reading.
The Omron, Series 10 has many unique features including an automatic calibration check system with dual sensors that automatically check each reading to insure accuracy. Other features include a cuff wrap guide to make sure the cuff is properly applied. The pre-formed cuff provided makes the cuff easy to apply and fits all size upper arms. In the "True Read Mode" the device takes three separate consecutive readings, one minute apart and displays the average of the three readings following the guidelines of the American Heart Association. The device also has an Irregular Heartbeat Detector that alerts the user of any irregular beats which is very helpful in a busy clinic. This allows my nurse to notify me of any patients with a previously unknown irregular heartbeat so I can refer them to a cardiologist ASAP. The device also has a 200 reading memory storage with date and time-stamp for easy research of the last 200 readings.
We have checked the Omron's accuracy against our standard sphygmomanometer and it appears to be very accurate for all three parameters of Systolic BP, Diastolic BP, and Pulse.
I would recommend this monitor for home use and even for medical office use without any reservations."
He said that he absolutely would give this product five stars. He has only been using it for about a week, so I will update this review after several months of his using it to see about a hundred patients a week. This would be useful in assessing its long term durability.
