1) can take multiple users
2) has very good, detailed reporting
3) it does work on vista, regardless of what the other review says. i have been using it for 3 weeks now and downloading to vista almost every day.
I have great confidence that this product accurately measures desaturation events. If you have sleep apnea, I feel this is a very reliable tool to help you calibrate your CPAP.
HOWEVER,
1) It is expensive. You can find a recording oximeter for less if you shop around, but it wont be as small as this one and wont fit on your wrist.
2) the amount of hours advertising says it records is misleading - it depends on the recording frequency setting you select (its not clear that you would ever want to select the setting that gets you to the maximium recording time, but the good news is you can simply download the data and clear the memory every few nights.)
2) the battery does not last nearly as long as advertised. Says 300 hours. Its more like half that. its a special battery, but you can buy it on amazon for much less than other places (less than $10)
I like the product very much, but felt I paid more than I should have for it. I dont like the battery.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this item so I could monitor my 89-year-old father's oxygen saturation levels. He suffers from congestive heart failure and frequently needs supplemental oxygen. The idea was that a finger pulse oximeter would help me to determine when my father needs additional oxygen.
I chose this particular model mostly because it is reasonably priced and supposedly reliable. But apparently I made a mistake. The device works sometimes, but mostly it does not. The first one I received would provide my own (healthy) oxygen levels most of the time but was vexingly fussy whenever I attempted to get readings from my father. You need to have the patient's finger inserted into the device juuuust so or else it doesn't work, and even when the finger appears to be perfectly placed the 5500 still frequntly fails to operate.
After a few weeks the device stopped working altogether. I sent it back to SPO and requested a replacement. SPO obliged me. But whatadaya know, the replacement unit was just as balky and difficult to use as the original.
If one is willing to work for say, ten minutes at getting a single oxygen saturation level reading, this device eventually will get the job done. But basically, it's a fussy, poorly designed piece of equipment that is disappointingly unreliable. In case a reader might simply conclude that this reviewer is some kind of klutz who can't follow instructions, let me add that the hospice nurses that work with my father had the same problems with this device that I experienced.
Don't waste your money.

This unit would be much less troublesome than hooking patients up to hospital monitoring equipment. This first day I got delivery, I took it to work with me. I was deeply disappointed in the accuracy of the unit. The Nonin pulse oximiter registered a SpO2 of 82, so I hooked the patient up to the hospital monitor, it read 97. I tried it on a total of fifteen patients with the same sad results. If I had not already written my name on it with magic marker, I would be returning it for a refund.
I was contacted by a representative from the Nonin Corporation. We reviewed the problems that I was having with this pulse oximiter and I was asked to return the GO2 to Nonin. The Nonin Corporation fixed the problem I was having and now I am an extremely happy customer. It's nice to work with a company that is truly professional.

This oximeter detects SpO2 and pulse rate through the patient's skin and indicates the pulse intensity with a bar graph. It is not appropriate for continuous monitoring over 2 hours. The measurement of SpO2 is taken from the arterial pulse, thus sufficient pulsating blood flow is required. For people with weak pulse due to shock, low ambient/body temperature, major bleeding, or use of a vascular contracting drug, the SpO2 waveform (Pleth waveform) will decrease. In this case, the measurement will be more sensitive to interference, so make sure to keep your hand still on your lap or a surface during use of the oximeter.This oximeter is not suitable for use in an MRI or CT environment.

The instrument works as designed and I am very happy with it. As with all oximeters, cold fingers should be warmed before a reading. Depending on how much you use it, it will eat batteries.
