Watch is a little squirrely. Kicks into the pulse mode if you get any where close to one of the buttons. Is a major problem if you are recording multiple laps and trying to use the fittness mode. Other than that it does some really neat things.

Omron Portable ECG EKG Handheld HCG-801 Monitor Review

Omron Portable ECG EKG Handheld HCG-801 Monitor

Pros: very portable and very easy to use. Cons: Lots of noise in the reading, no adjustment for signal amplitude. Impossible to get any useful information on P-R, QRS, or other intervals. P waves almost invisible.
If all you want is something to take your pulse, and give you a rate and regularity report, this is fine. Not for any real diagnostic use.

Sportline 750 Men's Analog Strapless Heart Rate Monitor Watch Review

Sportline 750 Men's Analog Strapless Heart Rate Monitor Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just wanted to be able to tell my heart rate accurately without having to wear a strap around my chest and I didn't need to know my gps location and upload it to a computer to track my lap times. Given my simple needs, I didn't want a calculator strapped onto my wrist. I had been searching all over for a watch that could tell my heart rate, yet not embarrass me to wear. I liked the analog style and thought for only 60 bucks whats the harm in giving it a shot? WOW! I am so happy with this watch. I know you read the info and the reviews and people say 'you could wear it with a suit' and you think... 'ya, if you're talking about a buy two suits for $99 at the mens wearhouse kind of suit' I am an armani, zegna, burberry suit wearer and my everyday watch is a rolex. That being said, this thing is pretty nice. I think if you slapped an ORIS in the place of sportline on there you could charge 1200 bucks for it. Can't speak for long term quality as I've only had it a day, but initial quality is absolutely astounding for $60. It may not be the ideal suit watch, but if you absolutely had to know what the annual shareholders meeting does to your heart rate you could get away with wearing it without having to explain or get any funny looks. Oh.. and on the functional side, I have been checking my heart rate all day, on a run, at the gym and it works every time. There is the occasional misread, but less common than the ones on the cardio machines at the gym and I did compare its readings to those and it matches up. I think some people who have trouble with it might not be wearing it tight enough... it doesn't have to cut off your circulation, just a snug fit. If you leave it too loose, the back doesn't contact your arm and it won't read. The only legitimate gripe I've seen is that you can read it in bright sunlight. That is true.. in very bright sunlight you can't see the heart rate... To the people who complained about that, I say go under a tree or shade it with your hand and stop complaining.

Mio Classic Select Heart Rate Monitor Watch Review

Mio Classic Select Heart Rate Monitor Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have compared this to my gym's machines, and my home blood pressure - heart rate monitor, and it is only one or two beats off each time - very close to what they say! It also seems to work well walking. It is rather inconvenient to place two fingers on the buttons while exercising, and it can take several seconds, but on the other hand, sometimes the machines don't give readings, and this one keeps working. It is also handy to have the watch on for timing reps. at the gym. You can press the light button while walking in the dark, and then take your reading and it stays lit, so useful in the dark.
It is rather bulky for a woman, and not very comfortable or attractive, but it is sensible, and sensibly priced, and does the job. I was too scared to buy the petite size, as I have a large wrist for a woman, but I would prefer a smaller one. I love not having to worry about a strap. For me it is worth having to place two fingers on it.
Note it does not have to be on your wrist to use it. You could carry it on curved fingers on a walk or run and then take your reading. It is also very easy to use. I didn't even have to use the manual to figure out how to set the time....
UPDATE: I have purchased the Reebok fitwatch and like it a lot better (although I only gave it a four star because it isn't quite as accurate, but close). It is much more feminine, and it is much easier to get a rating (takes less time, and the angle is SO much better). So, for accuracy, this one, but for comfort and being feminine, I like the fitwach.

About Mio The story of Mio began in 1999 when it was created by entrepreneur and mother of three, Liz Dickinson. Like many of us, Liz balances family and career, leaving little time for fitness. After several unsuccessful attempts to achieve her fitness goals and shed the pregnancy weight-gain of her third child, Liz turned to a personal trainer for advice. While working with a trainer, Liz realized the key to getting in shape and staying in shape is to practice smart eating habits, monitoring calorie intake, and using a heart rate monitor to ensure that she exercises at the right level. Liz realized there wasn't a product available on the market that would easily help her follow her trainer’s advice.
Liz didn't have time to read labels and carry a calorie journal in her purse, nor did she have much patience for the uncomfortable chest strap she had to wear to get her heart rate. She knew there had to be a better way, so Liz used her technology and marketing savvy to create Mio, the world’s first heart rate monitor to work without a chest strap. And, it didn't stop with just heart rate, as Mio also has a patented calorie management system that offers a straightforward approach to managing your diet. With the help of Mio and a balanced diet, Liz was able to shed those unwanted pounds and gain the benefits that come with improved fitness: more energy, more vitality, and less stress, and help many others do the same with the creation of Mio's products.

Electronic Stethoscope w/ ECG Monitor & pulse oximeter Review

Electronic Stethoscope w/ ECG Monitor and pulse oximeter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
According to the manual, "the device has a normal useful life for three years since the first electrified use.
Instead of a lanyard for carrying the apparatus, the manual mentions a "hanging rope" which is convenient for "schleping the apparatus. The unit has an "auscultation" mode. And how about "For the particular content of clinic restrict and taboo disease, please read the correlated iatrology literature".
To use the ECG function, you will need some conductive paste. The ECG function worked without the paste by pressing hard but the data hold button was difficult to press.
The pulse oximeter was excellent. Each pulsebeat results in an audible beep, there is a digital readout for beats per minute and oxygen level, and the pulse waveform is displayed.

Sportline 915 Men's Solo Heart Rate Watch Review

Sportline 915 Men's Solo Heart Rate Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased Sportline 915 specifically for its ability to provide a heart rate. The watch does that quite well, so well that when the face of the watch is just grazed it goes into heart rate mode, because of the its sensitivity. The only negative is not for the watch, but the little manual that accompanies the device. The manual does not indicate what all the screens do. I had to contact Sportline. They provided the answer in their responds. Age and gender are inputted into the second screen.

Easily measure your intensity level while jogging or working out with the Sportline Solo 915 men's heart rate watch. A big step forward in heart rate watches, the Solo 915 is the first watch in the Solo series to incorporate Any-Touch technology, which responds to a single touch anywhere on the stainless-steel case to deliver accurate ECG heart readings in mere seconds. Even better, the Solo 915 doesn't require an uncomfortable chest belt, nor do you have to stand still to measure your pulse. Want to know your heart rate while powering down the path? No problem. Easy to use, accurate, and responsive, the watch lets you cruise at your own speed with no strings (or anything else) attached. Other details include a built-in stopwatch, 12- and 24-hour time settings, an option for tracking your burned calories, and a large digital backlit display. The Solo 915, which is water-resistant to 50 meters, comes in a sleek black color.
About Heart Rate Training Turns out, your heartbeat is a pretty big deal. It's actually one of the most important indicators of overall wellness, and is one of the most effective elements of any fitness program. Your heart rate not only controls your body but also the efficiency of your exercise. To get the most out of your physical activity--whether it's walking, dancing or aerobics--you need to make sure you are in your target heart rate zone. To determine your target heart rate, first subtract your age from 220. That's your maximum heart rate. Your target heart rate is roughly 50 to 75 percent of this maximum heart rate. To see how your fitness level is progressing over time, measure and track your resting heart rate--usually between 60 and 100 beats per minute--on a weekly basis. As you become more fit, your resting heart rate will decrease.
Your target heart rate generally encompasses three zones. Exercising in the Active Zone (50 to 60 percent of maximum heart rate) reduces blood pressure and cholesterol and is ideal for fitness beginners or those on a low-intensity program. Almost all calories burned in this zone are fat calories. Reaching the Training Zone (60 to 70 percent of maximum heart rate) requires more intense aerobic activity and is perfect for fitness enthusiasts working to burn maximum calories and fat. Finally, exercising in the Endurance Zone (70 to 80 percent of maximum heart rate) is generally recommended for athlete in training. The primary benefits of this zone are cardiovascular strengthening and elevated caloric burn.

Mio Breeze Heart Rate Monitor Watch Review

Mio Breeze Heart Rate Monitor Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Get rid of those bulky, uncomfortable chest straps! We finally have a way to determine our heart rate that is quick, easy and portable. This wristwatch lets you find out your current heart rate with just a quick two-finger push.
The watch is a *little* bigger than a normal wrist watch, so I wouldn't wear this to an elegant dinner. Still, wearing it most other places seems quite fine. It has normal date and time functions, so it fully replaces my normal "sports watch" I would wear.
For the heart rate test, it is very easy. You are wearing the watch on one arm - let's say your left arm. So then you would take two fingers from your right hand and press them against the two silvery buttons on the watch's top face. You hold it there for about 5 seconds, and then the system shows you your heart rate.
Also, because you input your weight into it, and your age, it knows your ideal heart rate and shows you the current one as a percentage of your total. So you see at a glance how well you're doing.
I tend to do a number of "active" exercises, and there is NO way I could wear a chest monitor and have it stay on. This is the perfect solution. I go out for a walk, I play Dance Dance Revolution, and no matter what, I can check my heart rate in an instant.
Now, to the issues. First, it *is* a bit bulky. It's a unisex model meaning it's fine for my boyfriend but on me it's a little large. I guess I would rather have gotten a "women's model" - but at the price it didn't make sense to buy two for our family. It made more sense to get one we could both wear. So on one hand it might be a smidge large for a woman, but on the other hand having it be a device we can both easily use is definitely a plus. So I hesitate to complain about this.
Next, it sometimes takes me 2 or 3 tries to get a reading - including spinning it around so the face of the watch is pressed against the inside of my wrist. I tend to have very low blood pressure. If I prick my finger for a blood test, I get a drop maybe before it stops. So I realize completely that I am "not normal" in this sense. That being said, I was just having dinner with a friend of mine who is rather thin, and she had to do the same thing - spin the watch to point towards her inner wrist before she could get a reading. So maybe it's certain people that it has trouble reading. Maybe it's because she wasn't sweating and there wasn't enough moisture to conduct the current. I'm not really sure. So it does work - but it might take a try or two based on your situation and body shape.
So in general I highly recommend the unit. Just be aware if it doesn't work immediately on you that it's not you - it's just an inherent issue with an electrical-sensing device that you wear on a wrist.

Facelake shipped very quickly and provided information about the product not readily available. This information clinched the deal for me. The instrument works as designed and I am very happy with it. As with all oximeters, cold fingers should be warmed before a reading. Depending on how much you use it, it will eat batteries. I use rechargeable AAA cells and am getting good results. I can recommend this company and product without any reservations.

Average Reviews:

I think this breathalyzer is excellent! The results are right where I expected them to be depending on how much I had to drink. Much better than a DUI!
I have two suggestions for getting an accurate reading:
1. Do not take a deep breath before blowing into the breathalyzer. All that extra air will dilute the alcohol vapor that goes into the analyzer.
2. When blowing into the breathalyzer, try your best to capture the end of your breath. That will give you a much more accurate reading. Think about it . . . it makes sense . . . you would want to measure the alcohol deep in your lungs to get the best results. I've tried it using the first part of my breath one day and got a reading of .056, a minute later, using the "deep lung" air, the reading was .078. Trust me . . . the cops will take the "deep lung" air for the test if you're pulled over.

Wrist Pulse Oximeter, record the data and transfer it to your computer, then you can analyze it.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This device is remarkably well thought out, both the instrument and accompanying software. I got it for doing screening sleep studies for obstructive sleep apnea, and the description supports this use. The user manual says "the sensor should not be applied to the same finger for over 2 hours" but I had no problem with my own 8 hour trial. There is also a caution about rubber allergy for the fingertip sensor. It's slightly bulky between the fingers, but doesn't interfere with sleep.
Most unexpected was "The device has normal useful life for three years since the first electrical use." The battery spec says "Charge and discharge no less than 500 times." I don't think of electronic products as having such a short service life, but the caution should definitely be part of the advertisement. Be careful inserting the sensor probe plug into the wrist module because the pins are very delicate.
The manual is poorly translated into English, but is still understandable. Configuring and using the device are much easier than the manual seems to indicate. It's extremely intuitive and well thought out. There's only one button. Press it for 1 second to enter the menu. A click changes between menu items, a button press of 1 second selects the various options. The time is 24 hour format. "Set day" means the date, and "Set week" means day of the week, where 1 is Monday.
I compared the device readings with an expensive professional unit we have in the operating room by placing them both on my fingers at the same time. The pro unit read 97 while the Contec CMS50 read 94. I'm quite healthy so I suspect the pro unit is right.
The software is very easy to use. It installs from the included mini-CD. There's no help, but you don't need it. I tested it first on Windows XP Service Pack 3, then on my new PC running Windows 7. Installation was flawless. Data are stored on "C:\Program Files\SPO2\Data" and you don't get a choice. In Windows 7, the folder is invisible to Windows Explorer, but it shows up when you choose a file by selecting the "Review" and "Find File" option. Right-clicking the file desired, choosing "Properties" and then "Details" shows Attributes "A" for archiving and "I" for "I have no idea." Even with full administrator privileges, I couldn't get the "I" to go away. Fortunately, the file can be copied to another drive while doing the selection process.
The analysis parameters are good, and they can be customized. Unfortunately, there is no way to retain them for your next session. There are only a dozen buttons on the SPO2 Review screen, and you can easily figure them out. The printer button opens a screen with graph setting options and a preview opportunity. I use CutePDF Writer (free) to save the reports in electronic format.
Despite the preceding limitations, the device has an easily readable display screen, the menu is simple to navigate, and the software produces great reports. Durability remains to be seen, but so far so good.

Omron HR-100C Heart Rate Monitor Review

Omron HR-100C Heart Rate Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Being a person who hasn't ever joined a gym, I never knew stuff like this existed. I was very interested in this item because I've been walking for exercise but wasn't really sure I was reaching my target heart rate consistently.
The monitor, which displays the time as well as your heart rate on a watch, works in conjuction with a gizmo that you strap around yourself, just under your chest. (I will tell you, since I was concerned about this, that it's hardly noticeable once it's in place...it's a 12" or so long piece of plastic with an adjustable elastic strap...not very bulky at all!) The monitor also features a stopwatch and an alarm, so that after you set your minimum & maximum desired heart rates, you can be alerted when you are out of range. The alarm is a "beep-beep" that I can hear over the book on tape I drag along with me. Your heart rate is updated every second or two so you will always know if you need to pick up the pace a bit.
Although I have not yet had to do so, the chest strap has a removable backing, and you apparently can change the battery yourself (this is a big deal, I guess, since some of the more expensive monitors require that you send them to the factory for a battery change). The elastic strap is also completely removable, which makes it very easy to wash (and you will need to if you're exercising!).
The monitor comes packaged in a small, zippered carrying case, and includes an attachment that allows you to place it on a bicycle handlebar.
This does everything I need it to, and I recommend it for anyone who is just getting started in an exercise program.

The Omron HR-100C Heart Rate Monitor is easy to program and a cinch to wear with a ventilated watch band. Knowing your heart rate is important because if you're working out too hard, your activity can actually become counter productive and strain or damage muscles. To achieve an effective workout, no matter what the aerobic activity, you must maintain your heart rate at a proper level for a minimum of 20 minutes. In general, the proper level falls between 65 percent-85 percent of your maximum heart rate. To ensure you don't drop above or below your proper level, the HR-100C is built with an alarm option that indicates low and high heart rates.
Omron includes a chest transmitter belt with the wristwatch-style monitor. This transmitter sends data to the receiver on your wrist at a distance up to 98 feet (30 meters). Q&A - Fitness Monitors What is the Bioelectrical Impedance Method? Bioelectrical Impedance (BI) is considered one of the most accurate and accessible methods of screening body fat. Muscles, blood vessels and bones are body tissues having a high water content that conduct electricity easily. Body fat is tissue that has little electric conductivity. The monitor sends an extremely weak electrical current through your body to determine the amount of fat tissue. Theweakelectrical current is not felt while operating the Body Fat Analyzer. The monitoris calculated by a formula thatincludes five factors; electric resistance, height, weight, ageandgender. What is visceral fat? Visceral fat is located around the organs. Too much visceral fat is thought to be closely linked to increased level of fat in the bloodstream, which can lead to common conditions such as high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Sedentary life style causes excess visceral fat, and exercise can reduce it quicker than subcutaneous fat (fat located under skin). What is resting metabolism? Resting metabolism is the energy to maintain vital functions and it counts 60 to 70% of total energy consumption. Knowing your resting metabolism can help your dietplan. If you can increase daily activity while keeping food intake at resting metabolism level, you can lose weight. What is skeletal muscle? Skeletal muscle is muscle attached to the bones that is used to move the body. If you do weight loss without exercise, you may lose skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle is important to maintain your resting metabolism as well as your functionality. Monitoring skeletal muscle during weight loss is key to avoid weight rebound in the future.

Nonin GO2 Achieve FingerTip Pulse Oximeter SandStone Orange Review

Nonin GO2 Achieve FingerTip Pulse Oximeter SandStone Orange
Average Reviews:

I did a lot of research between brands before ordering this item. Ultimately the deciding factor for me was the company's website. I found that there is a medical grade of this item requiring a prescription - and it is the same item. The specifications for the two are listed side-by-side - and even the price is the same; the only difference is this one does not require a prescription. The medical grade meters must meet FDA tests - so this one obviously does, as well.
I like the continuous readout. From the pictures I was not quite certain what to expect in the readouts or performance - I didn't feel the descriptive information was precise on this. The readouts are for pulse rate, blood oxygen level, and a scale that, literally, shows your pulse and the strength of your pulse. This enables you to know if you are getting a strong enough pulse to get a good reading.
After first putting the unit on, I did some moving around, sitting still, and various things to change my activity level. The pulse rates changed accordingly and there were some variances in the oxygen level, as would be expected. Though I have just quite smoking (mostly) I did light up and had a few quick drags to see what effect this would have (lower oxygen at first, then catching back up almost to not-smoking level).
I'm impressed with the unit. It will operate economically on AAA batteries. If I end up using it a lot, I'll probably go to rechargeables for it.
While this one was a few dollars more than some of the alternatives, I felt it would be the most reliable from the research I did. After receiving it, I am extremely pleased with the way it works. I would highly recommend it.

Panasonic EW3109ACW Portable Automatic Arm Blood Pressure Monitor with AC Adapter, (White) Review

Panasonic EW3109ACW Portable Automatic Arm Blood Pressure Monitor with AC Adapter, (White)
Average Reviews:

I have been using the EW3109ACW since Dec. '08' 3 to 5 times per week.
- I've had Ormon's before and they're very noisy & cumbersome. This unit is much quieter & streamlined.
- I especially like the cuff which formed & easier to put on. The Ormon's is bulkier and floppy.
- The accuracy is right on (compared with Doctor's office unit).
- It will log the readings so I can enter them to my computer for record keeping.
- I've had the same batteries in the unit since purchase and they're still working. I bought this unit with the AC adaptor but I don't think anyone needs the adaptor. The same unit without the adaptor is on sale for $29 less on Amazon. Save your money.
- Keep taking your BP meds and monitor results. You can take your BP printed record to your doctors so he/she has good historical info. IT'S YOUR HEART!!!

Homedics BPW-060 Digital Automatic Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor Review

Homedics BPW-060 Digital Automatic Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor

I had a cuff sphygmomanometer that was at least 15 years old, so I needed a new one. Technology has changed so much since then, I thought that I would upgrade to the wrist variety. This has so many great functions and is very easy to use. Just place it on and press the button. I work in a hospital, so I made sure to test its accuracy with the ones there, so I can attest that it is accurate as well. The most important feature to me, which I don't think is in the product description, is the case.
