I tried to calibrate it with the readings from the doctor's office but was also told that those readings tend to be higher (probably from the stress of being at a doctor's office). The main thing was that it reliably measured any changes that might happen. Hint: found that if you use just batteries, it is important to replace periodically since the readings are not as good with weak batteries; another solution is to consistently use the included AC-adapter.
