After using the Lumiscope Model 1091 we decided to order what we thought was a newer version, a Lumiscope Model 1143. Either the Model 1143 is not calibrated correctly, or the newer technology does not work! Both of the Lumiscope models are easy to use and thus the reason why we ordered one for personal use, but you have to be able to believe that you are getting reasonable accuracy, or else the device is useless. Upon questioning the accuracy and the newer technology with Lumiscope, it was easy for Lumiscope to blame the inaccuracy on a handling error, but that is not the case.
We have taken multiple readings on three different people, using left and right arms, and compared the readings of the two Lumiscope Models with a Philips Bedside Monitor non-invasive cuff measurement. The Lumiscope Model 1143 consistently reads considerable higher on both systolic and diastolic on all three people and on both arms than does the Lumiscope Model 1091 or the Philips bedside monitor. The Lumiscope Model 1091 and the Philips bedside monitor are within a couple of points of each other.
Since the technology of measurement is different on the two Lumiscope models, I have to question the accuracy of their newer technology. Lumiscope will only blame the inaccuracy on "handling error". Judging what I have seen, I would recommend that the technology used in the Lumiscope Model 1143 and the purchace of Model 1143 be avoided.
