Some years ago, I had a hip replacement. It was my second on the same leg. I knew the procedures I would go through pretty well. One of the things I wanted to do in advance of the surgery, was to donate my own blood that I would need. I showed up within the time frame I needed to donate to keep the blood fresh, and after some lab work, was told I would not be able to donate my own blood to myself. The reason: I was borderline anemic, and drawing extra blood would not help the situation.
It was recommended I start taking a Ferrous Sulfate(Iron) supplement to build up my red blood cells.At first, I started on a higher dose than 65mg(check with your doctor to see what you need), and at my next lab tests, I was back within the acceptable range. I now take one of these 65 mg daily, along with "Nature Made 50+ Multi Vitamin Multi Mineral, and an extra C Vitamin.Of course, younger people will want a multi-vitamin other then the 50+. The combination has kept me quite healthy(and energetic). As of my last yearly lab work, I still remain in the normal range.
Iron is an important part of the red blood cell formation. These Nature Made 65mg Ferrous sulfate supplements have worked well for me for quite a while. An excellent deal price-wise on this 6 pack. You'll be stocked up for a long time.
I would recommend Nature Made for those that have been advised to take Ferrous Sulfate for iron deficiency. I also found it best to take with a meal, as Iron pills can upset your stomach. See buying info for label ingredients, and of course check with your own Doctor.

My diet has stayed relatively the same (relatively healthy). The only change I've made is switching from Centrum to One-A-day. I've been using this product for 2 months, and it seems I've been more resistant to colds and have been more "regular" since taking this supplement.
I'm knocking off a star because these may be hard to swallow for some people (like me). The pills don't have any sort of external coating on them to aid in swallowing. Additionally, if/when these become moist, the pill all but adheres to your tongue because of its gritty surface. I've had to throw out a few pills because I was not able to swallow them. A fresh pill solved the problem. My recommendation is to reduce moisture in your mouth to a minimum before taking.
Good product, overall.

I ordered this after seeing a television ad, but after I received it and read the label, I personally have concerns. Besides normal vitamin, mineral, and herbal ingredients, the main active ingredient is DHEA, a substance classified as an androgenic steroid. While a claim made that DHEA is metabolized into testosterone, this action is controversial. In fact, DHEA can also be metabolized in estrogen like-compounds. If DHEA is in fact converted to testosterone without involving the normal endocrine feedback loop, there are potentially negative side effects associated with pure testosterone supplements.
I personally have decided not to take this product; I would recommend to anyone using this product to do their own research first. Also, I have NOT used it, so I can not attest to any potential benefits it may offer, nor can I say it has any harmful side effects. The Progene ads are very up front with their ingredients in the site where I ordered it; I should have read it more closely before I ordered it. I just don't think it's for me personally.

(More customer reviews)It's funny, after reading the reviews for this, a lot of posters say they feel no difference at all (and the ones who do usually feel negative affects) and only hope that the vitamin is doing its thing. What's sad, is that I took these vitamins years ago and pretty much felt the same way. I was only hoping and assuming it was doing its thing. Since I never really felt a difference and I felt like I had more than I knew what to do with, they mainly ended up in the toilet.
One-A-Day is a prime example of a cheap, mass-marketed multivitamin that truly has very little to offer. If you're someone who is serious about your health, then you're better off spending a little more on a quality multivitamin that will actually do something for you, not something that is just a waste of money.
Cheap vitamins like this usually do not list their vitamin details explicitly on their nutrition label. Instead, one must look at the ingredients to find precisely what forms the vitamins are in. Cheap vitamins (such as this one) usually will use inferior forms of vitamins and minerals because they are inexpensive, the general public doesn't know any better anyway, and unfortunately, these ingredients give minimal results.. if that.
Cheap vitamins use ingredients such as calcium as calcium carbonate, or minerals like magnesium as magnesium oxide.
When looking for a multivitamin, I have three main things I look for:
1. The form of the multivitamin should ideally be in either a liquid or a capsule/softgel. Tablets, while not all of them are bad, tend to be harder for the body to dissolve because they are so compressed and dense. As a result, the tablet may not completely dissolve, thus the vitamins are wasted.
2. The forms the vitamins are in and the amounts:
-Vitamin A as 100% natural cartonoids such as betacarotene and no more than 5000IU.
-Calcium as either caclium citrate or calcium malate or amino acid chelate but NOT calcium carbonate.
-Minerals such as zinc, magnesium, copper and so forth should be in either citrate or amino acid chelated forms, not oxides
-Selenium should be in 200mcg (the amount that the latest research says is needed to get the most health benefits) in the L-Selenomethionine form
-Natural Vitamin E as d-alpha tocopherol, not the synthetic dl-alpha tocopherol which is what most mass-marketed vitamins such as One-A-Day and Centrum use.
3. The other ingredients: avoid vitamins that have artificial colors, useless fillers and binders and objectionable ingredients such as titanium dioxide.
Sad thing is, most mass-marketed vitamins such as this one make it a little harder for the consumer to know what they are getting, because their label usually doesn't list the form of the vitamin or mineral. Instead, one has to look at the ingredients and know what they are looking for in order to determine what the form is.
This vitamin fails in just about every area I can think of for a quality vitamin. It's no wonder that people don't feel any better after taking them. This vitamin is very cheap for a reason. If you are someone who is taking vitamins in hopes that you will improve your health, then spend a little more on a product that is actually beneficial and will help you feel better.

(More customer reviews)I prefer this brand of iron supplements. They do not flush out of your system quickly, and they are affordable. Since I have used these in conjunction with my multi-vitamin my hair has grown faster, white marks on my fingernails have disappeared, I don't freeze all of the time, and I'm not as exhausted during my workouts. I recommend that any woman that is of a child-bearing age take these. Blood tests showed that the iron level in my blood was good, and all of these above listed symptoms persisted. No doctor ever recommended that I take an iron pill. Taking this supplement has benefitted me more than any vitamin or supplement I've ever taken.

It took some time to find the right product, however, as you need to use a form of Magnesium that ends in "-ate" (and avoid those that end in "-ide," such as Magnesium Oxide). I found this Solgar brand, which contains Magnesium Citrate, in the natural foods section of my grocery store. The particular form I buy contains 200 mg tablets, but this version sold by amazon is even better, as it contains 400 mg tablets, which is the recommended daily dosage for migraine treatment. Once I began taking the recommended dose, I saw a reduction in the frequency of my migraines over the course of 1-2 months. The authors of the book mentioned above recommend using Magnesium in conjunction with two other substances, B2 (Riboflavin) and the herb Feverfew, but Magnesium alone has worked extremely well for me.
