I fell in love with a classmates Riester but was put off by the $100 price tag! This was almost 1/2 so thanks for giving me a great product at a great price! I wish I had been aware of this product before purchasing my first blood pressure cuff set. It is so much easier to manage that I would gladly have spent more money initially!

Just be aware that ADC does not supply the plastic connector required to connect this to the sphygmomanometer. This is probably because they don't know what sphygmomanometer you will be using it with. So, be sure to order the appropriate connector.

That's doesn't mean it doesn't work, becuase it does, and it is very good. It's just the materila of the arm band that could be better.

(More customer reviews)After 4 months of limited useage in an EMS course the Lumiiscope failed entirely on me. I can't say it was the same model (the model isn't printed on the thing)but ...it was a close model. It is not one that I want to rely on however.
The model I have was never used over 20 times. Then one day I tried to take a BP and it choked above 40....then suddenly sprang to 300 and the proverbial "ping" occured. It decided after that everything was 120!~
I'm saving the cuff...but ..I really don't want to go back to that day when I had to rely on it.

Omron Sprague Rappaport Stethoscope Review

(More customer reviews)I am a first year nursing student and although I bought a Littman Classic II SE, I was concerned about it growing legs and walking off while in clinical or lab. Based on the famous "For Us Docs" stethescope review from 2008 that you can find online, I picked up this steth for ~$24.00 here on Amazon to use instead.
Pros:
- This stethescope IS surprisingly clear for apical auscultations and taking blood pressures. My Littman may be a bit louder, but I think that it sounds muddy or boomy. This Omron Sprague is clear.
- The steth does NOT have the tunable diaphragm like the Littmann, which I think is a plus. A normal dual-head steth, I find, is easier to use: you
don't have to worry about changing pressure while listening to a patient to hear the high or low noises.
- The blue color that I chose is actually a darker, less toy-like looking color, which is nice. I wouldn't be embarrassed wearing this in a hospital.
- Very flexible in terms of accessories: Adult and Peds diaphragam and bell attachments switch out quickly. There is even an infant bell, and three types of eartips. The accessories all come in a little plastic folding holder, which is cheap but useful.
- Actually feels like its built fairly well.
Cons:
- The double lumen tubing is stiff and doesn't bend easily enough to accomadate various positions during an exam.
- The double lumen has what appears to bea permenant kink due to being folded into the box for sometime.
- The accessories are cheap - the various bells are just cheap plastic (but what do you want for the low price?)
- Here's the BIG one for me: its extremely uncomfortable to wear! The mushroom eartips are worthless, the hardplastic tips did not block out ambient noise well enough, and the clear rubber tips stuck too far into my ear canals. It was literally quite painful!
- The scope will get heavy over the course of a 12 hour shift.
All-in-all, this scope is usable as a last resort. And its cheap enough that if it gets 'borrowed' the owner wouldn't be too angry. Useful for basic auscultations for students, but its too uncomfortable (for me) to be used for any length of time. I will send this back and get a refund, and go with a GRx or ADG, etc. Or get the Littmann engraved with my name.
I would seriously consider getting one that is a bit more expensive for the comfort issue alone. ***Update 3-8-10***
I decided to hang onto this scope and mess with it. I straightened out the tubing by letting it soak in extremely hot water for 20 minutes (not immersing the head), then letting it hang so that the weight of the head would align the tubing. I also put on some soft ear tips from a Prestige Medical Sprague I had laying around and voila! It went from a kinked, uncomfortable scope to one that is actually pretty nice to use. Is it the best scope out there? No, however for the price and clear acoustics, it's not too bad (especially for students!) Just be prepared to give it a little TLC to get it into tip-top shape! I even used a little Armor All I had in the garage to coat the tubing and protect it a bit. Hope this helps!

The dial and balloon in one piece takes all the fumbling out of play. The whole handpiece is very light but durable. The dial is easy to read and the crystal is very clear. Easy to use in right or left hand-but again, you have to practice using the trigger release; it take finesse and getting use to.

It turns out the long metal tubes which feed into your ear rotate and twist to the desired angle. { Hold it in front of you like you are going to put it on and simply twist each of the metal tubes about 45 degrees in the appropriate direction. This allows the black ear pieces to angle slightly away from you. Then gently bend the metal ribbon which holds the metal tubes together so that it exerts less pressure on your ear canals. THIS WILL INCREASE THE COMFORT AND PRACTICALITY OF THE SYSTEM A HUNDRED FOLD. } Your Welcome.

(More customer reviews)I own several different electronic blood pressure testers, and each of them gives a different value when I test my blood pressure. Some register higher and others lower. It can be confusing and cause problems.
Some time back I rushed off to an emergency hospital thinking my blood pressure had gone through the roof, because my expensive new electronic tester showed my blood pressure kept going up every few minutes.
All that had gone up was my systolic pressure because of the panic and fear caused by the wrong diastolic reading on the machine.
With the old fashioned sphygmomanometer I can always see very quickly where my blood pressure is at. I can soon tell when it has gone excessively high, and I don't have the fear of waiting while the electronic tester pumps and repumps and slowly ticks down to reveal a high blood pressure.
Talk about white coat hypertension? I think these electronic testers cause it more than sitting in a doctors office.
If your bp fluctuates a lot I highly recommend you get this simple tester. It comes with the stethoscope connected making it really easy to test your pressure any time.
It takes a bit of practice to use it, but you need to go slow and not be in a hurry to let the air out too quickly, or you miss the readings. But the great thing is you can very quickly pump up and find the top reading, and very quickly let it out to find the bottom reading, without waiting through the painful beeping of the other electronic monitors until the final reading shows.
Try using it on both arms also to compare readings. And you will soon get to know your body and your regular blood pressure readings. Then you can confirm with the other monitors and see how accurate or inaccurate they are.
