(More customer reviews)I've been working to get my blood pressure down for about a year. Monitoring my blood pressure every day helps me find connections between my diet, my exercise level, and my blood pressure.
I bought one of those cheap versions you can buy at the pharmacy for $30 or so. It worked OK, but I found you have to do everything exactly right to get a consistent reading. After a few weeks, the velcro in the armband became a little loose.
Then my girlfriend gave me this unit. Yes, it's more expensive. But it's not *that* expensive, and I like it a lot more. It gives a more consistent reading I'm convinced. The manual specifies an accuracy of +/- 3 mm Hg. But even more than the machine's accuracy, the design makes it easy to consistently position yourself for each measurement. I believe consistent positioning is more important than the machine's inherent accuracy.
The unit is about the size of a six-pack of beer. As such, it's easy to toss into my luggage when I travel.

(More customer reviews)This is a great little set to keep with a portable first aid kit, or as a spare for a professional. The stethoscope auscultates well, and includes several bell attachments and extra diaphragms. My only complaint on the scope is that the bilateral tubes are exposed (most better scopes have two tubes, but they are enclosed in a single sheath). The problem comes when listening to gastro sounds and sometimes lung sounds, and the noise from the two tubes rubbing together interferes with listening to the patient sounds. I have seen some who use these scopes tape the two tubes together in multiple places with electrical tape to try and help with this issue, but I find that this practice inhibits the flexibility of the tubes a lot and can interfere with usage. If the tube noise is a huge problem during a particular session I find that you can rub a little baby powder on the tubes to help with the noise temporarily.
The sphygmomanometer is a nice unit, the dial seems accurate and the cuff holds well when inflated (which is my main complaint with the less expensive units, they tend to come off the patients arm when inflated). The other thing I look for in a portable model is the valve on the bulb that inflates the cuff. Sometimes it can be difficult to adjust the valve when emptying the cuff, you either have a cuff that deflates way to fast to get accurate readings or with the tiniest adjustment a cuff that seems to take forever to deflate. This valve on this model makes it easy to regulate deflation rate though.

I did not normally remove the cuff (and tube) from the base unit but found that I had to make sure it was tight to start with in order to get any reading. So, I purchased this replacement more than a year ago and have had no problems since.

(More customer reviews)I bought this device to keep track of my wife blood pressure when she was pregnant. It sometimes worked, but you have to be a physician, nurse, or experienced in blood pressure measurements to get the thing to work and take measurements. Otherwise, you just get errors and errors.
The instructions and manual that came with the device is soo not helpfull and barely contain any "instructions". You just have to figure it out yourself. After having used this for about 3 months now, I say get the manually operated blood pressure monitor becuase they are much better and can't go wrong. Avoid the automatic ones becuase they don't always work and would give wrong measurements. The automatic ones may not inflate properly. Any small physiological change or if your arms are larger or really small (petite) can through off the measurements.
If you are not sure or doubt the measurements you get, take several measurements and compare the average. This is a good device to have at home especially if you have an older adult with previous history of high blood pressure, diabetes, hypertension, and/or heart disease. check with your doctor.

(More customer reviews)I bought TWO of these, one for myself, and another for a friend and we've been using these for our rotations the past 8 months. Both are still functional, and heavily used. Neither of us have had any problem using it. Both have been dropped and banged a few times, and they still work great.
******The price is reasonable. I have no compelling argument against purchasing this product. It does exactly what it should, and seems durable.
Note: This is it, don't look anymore unless you want a better price. Spending more than this on some other product is foolish and pointless. Buy a good steth, don't get caught up on the sphyg.

(More customer reviews)I had different wrist blood pressure monitors. First one purchased about 3 years ago. After 18 months, it failed. Just quit working. Of course, I did the obvious. Checked batteries, changed batteries, nothing helped. I tied contacting someone. Made overseas and couldn't find out anything. So, I bought another one - same brand. (I figured it was a fluke!). And then, about 16 months later, it too, simply quit working. From one day to the next. Again, I tried everything I could think of. So - I went online with Amazon, found this item, ordered it. Arrived in good time. But - NO batteries included. So I was ready to install the ones I've been using for years - Rechargeable. Then I read the directions, where they state "do not use rechargeable batteries". So I called the company. They stated that rechargeable batteries have a different chemical that can damage the monitor. All of a sudden, it hit me. That's what was wrong with the previous ones. So, I bought new alkaline batteries and installed them. I have been using this monitor for about 3 weeks now. It works fine. I also use the second memory for my lady friend, so we can watch both bp's separately. The monitor also averages them out for us. All these features are great. The display is large, easy to read, and I love it. IMHO, I have no complaints and this is a great monitor. Next doctor's appointment, I will take it with and check it against the regular upper arm pressure check that they use. So, as I said in the title, and have mentioned here, I have no complaints whatsoever. And did I mention? The price is great too.

In my research, before purchasing this unit, I found out that finger monitors are the least accurate, wrist monitors are next, and arm monitors can be pretty accurate is the cuff is fitted properly. I also researched the two largest companies that make BP monitors--Lifesource and Omron.

I tried another popular brand and found the readings unreliability and not accurate. I spoke to many medical personal, that I know, and this manufacture keep coming up as the most accurate and reliable. I purchased this monitor. I have had found that the readings almost the same as my doctor's. If you can't trust the readings, trying to make medical decisions is impossible. I recommend LifeSource's monitors to anyone. Save yourself money. There are many out there but MOST are not accurate.
This unit is easy to use, fit is excellent, accurate and works everytime. Large characters, thus easy to read and comes with a large and medium cuff. My wife and I use the medium cuff.

I'm wondering if they made the same mistake that I made with my first two readings. My first two readings were 20 points higher than normal!! And then I read the instructions and realized that the air pump had to be on the same side as the palm of your hand. Tried a third time, making sure I had the air pump properly positioned. The next reading was normal. What a relief.
When I was researching which monitor to get, I debated between the Omron HEM-780 and this one. For whatever reason, the HEM-780 sells more on Amazon. The only advantages I could see, however, were that it had a larger cuff, a so-called Comfit cuff, and saves the last 90 readings rather than the last 60. What sold me on this unit, however, was a feature that the HEM-780 doesn't have -- an irregular heart beat indicator (not mentioned in the Amazon.com description but shown in the PDF of the owner's manual at www.omronhealthcare.com). Since the 9"-13" upper arm cuff was fine for me, I bought this unit and it's perfect for my needs. The Omron technology is otherwise the same for both units and the cuff on this unit is also comfortable so no need for the Comfit cuff. If you need a larger cuff (up to 17"), buy the HEM-780. If not, save the $12, get the same technology with the added bonus of the irregular heart beat indicator.

Instructions for Upper Arm Blood Pressure MonitorsThere are several easy steps to taking your blood pressure with this monitor. First of all, avoid eating, smoking, and exercising for at least 30 minutes before taking a measurement. Remove tight-fitting clothing from your upper arm, and sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Slide your left arm through the cuff and position the cuff approximately 0.5-inches above the elbow. (More customer reviews)I have been using blood pressure monitors for over 12 years and compared to others I have been using this one is FAR better.... here is why: (1) The construction quality is excellent... beautifully made (2) It is extremely quiet, almost in-audible compared to others I have used (3) The cuff design is unusual and a huge improvement over the conventional cuff design on other units... this one has a flexible shaped insert inside the inflatable cuff that forms a "tube" shape that makes the cuff very easy to slide over your arm and to easily wrap the Velcro to hold it in place. I eventually learned that I could leave the Velcro "closed" and simply slide the cuff off after use and easily slide it back on for a new measurement without opening the Velcro.(4) Yes, is is made in China BUT in a PANASONIC factory. (5) I have not yet compared the readings to those in my doctors office but likely it will be very close since it is ~ same as the older very noisy one I have been using that does closely match the doctors measurements.
